Mr. Johnny Harris was born July 17, 1949 to Odell Harris and Blandina Evans Wilson in Charlotte, NC. He crossed over to be with the Lord on November 1, 2020.
Johnny was educated in the Charlotte Mecklenburg County Public School System and attended West Charlotte High School. He received his English Degree from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 1, 1973. He was an SGT E4 and a Ground Radio Operator. He was a loving and faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Johnny was employed as an editor/writer at the second largest circulation of any newspaper in the Carolinas, The Charlotte Observer. He was employed there until retirement.
He was preceded in death by his father, Odell Harris; mother, Blandina Evans Wilson; one sister, Willie Mae Camp; three uncles: Edar Evans, Lucius Evans, Melvin Evans; one aunt, Frances Moore; and one niece, Debra Camp.
Johnny was a loving caring son, brother, uncle as well as a caring friend. He loved nurturing and guarding and providing for his family and instilling the importance of education in all of them which he was most passionate about. In his leisure, he loved talking about his life stories and how he became the man he was. He was an avid sports fan.
Although he did not have any children of his own, he was a beloved uncle and a father figure among all his many nieces and nephews.
He leaves to cherish his memory three brothers: Charles Harris (Brenda), Ronald Harris, Michael Harris; four sisters: Denise Barber, Vickie Ann Oglesby, Karen Strong and Brenda Boyd; 10 nephews: James Barber, Clarence Harris, Don Harris (Laronica), Patrick Harris, Bryant Harris (Kameelah), Antonio Harris Foster (Reggie), Stephon Harris, Lee Harris, Christopher Oglesby and Raymond Camp; eight nieces: Shonta Harris, Lacara Harris, Brittany Simpson, Latosha Harris, Lafontrese Camp-Horton, Lashonda Bess, Cherise Oglesby and Laporche Bess; and 35 other nieces and nephews.
